Pattern: Sew Over It - Ultimate Wrap Dress
My lovely friend is having a baby later this year and she was having trouble finding maternity dresses that she liked, so I put my hand up to make her a dress one night after a couple of wines and was feeling quite generous. She’s not a huge print fabric fan so this knit fabric was a great pick by her as it’s not too out there.
We both thought that the Sew Over It Ultimate Wrap Dress was the best for her increasing baby bump. I decided that I would size the back of the dress and the sleeves a 14 and made the front wrap from the underarm a size 16. It was a bit of an experiment and hopefully it works. I also overlocked some of the seams for a slightly neater finish, which was not mentioned in the pattern, just thought it would be a more professional finish but probably wouldn’t do this if I was making for myself.
The pattern is really simple to make and would suit a beginner seamstress. With no button holes or zips it was really enjoyable to make. I had no real hiccups to speak of either which was nice.
I can’t wait to see how long this dress lasts her, hopefully it’s for a while and she’ll be able to use it as a good nursing dress as well.
